Why send nurses abroad? Why doesn’t Purses for Nurses focus on improving healthcare here in the US?
Purses for Nurses was born out of a passion for travel Nursing. Our directors have experienced firsthand the lack of healthcare resources and knowledge abroad. Basic needs like clean water, sanitation, healthy living habits, and vaccinations are few and far between in many countries; all of which can be addressed and remedied by nurses. Given that nurses outnumber physicians in the US by 3 to 1, we see an opportunity in the fact that our nurses will be able to significantly impact healthcare without a physician’s presence. We believe that there is immense room for growth and development abroad with relatively basic Nursing interventions.
Where will Purses for Nurses be sending volunteers?
Purses for Nurses has a focus on communities in need of basic health care like first aide, sanitation, clean water, and education, for starters. We are planning to fund the first Nursing volunteer trips in 2017. Interested in volunteering abroad? Stay tuned with updates by subscribing to our blog.
